When Art becomes a Lifestyle…

Over the years of teaching I have realised that art is not just about learning to paint or create.

I didn’t know at the time that so many students decided to join my art classes because for one reason or another they needed a positive change in their lives, or they wanted to do something for themselves.

One of my student’s once said to me.. ”you do realise what you are actually doing for your students.” I said “yes, teaching them how to paint” !!

She smiled, and said “think about it…all the amazing moments, friendships, and outings that have now been introduced into their everyday lives.”

So you see, joining any art class (not just mine) on a regular basis will mean meeting like minded students and even forming life long friendships. A new lifestyle perhaps?

However when you start on this journey you will learn to see colour, and pattern everywhere. You will most probably start visiting galleries learning to appreciate other artists works and enjoy the outing.

One day you may even have the opportunity to join a teacher on a painting and sketching holiday locally or overseas.

Imagine sitting under the olive trees in Tuscany, or in a Piazza in Rome or San Gimignano with your watercolours, paint brushes, pens and sketchbooks. Ready for your first art class.

While exploring the local towns, learning the history of the area, meeting new friends, sipping local vino, eating fresh local produce, you will be observing the surrounding vistas…. Something you may have never been aware of doing before.

You are now learning to see colours and patterns everywhere because when you learn to paint and draw you actually take all of this creativity in.

All of this helps in creating a new lifestyle experience.!

Over the years I have absorbed all of this information. Gradually I have moved into other directions alongside my teaching. When I started teaching I had no idea how much my lifestyle would change. So to me it all comes together. I am hoping all of you realise that this is what art can be about. You won’t know at the time but your life will gradually change for the positive.
